I am excited and proud to be joining the Crossfit Central Team and Austin Habitat for Humanity in an effort to raise funds to build a house for the Romo Family. Their story is incredibly moving and speaks to the resilience and determination of the human spirit...
At the age of 53, Virginia Romo has worked long and hard to support her children. She’s lived on the same street her entire life and in the same small, run-down house for 20 years. She shares the two-bedroom, one-bathroom house with her two daughters and three grandchildren. “Being overcrowded feels normal,” her daughters say. It’s all they’ve ever known.
The Romo Family he floors in their kitchen are plywood, there’s no floor at all in the bathroom, some of the walls are missing insulation and sheet rock, and all of the wiring is bad. They do not have air conditioning, so during the hot months of the year, all six of them sleep in the one room that has a window unit. Virginia works two jobs. Jovita, 25, and Valeria, 18, both attend ACC.
The family wants more than anything to have a home where they have privacy and space. They’ve been working hard to complete their sweat equity, building other families’ houses, and they look forward to building their own home with Cross fit Central.
So come out, build, bring your energy, enthusiasm, and help lay the foundation of this courageous family's future home.
Each team is raising $2, 000 to contribute to Virginia and her family's new home. We will be building every Sat. starting this Sat. thru July 23rd, from 8am - 4pm.
